Lionel Richie's Saturday night concert in St. Louis took an unexpected turn when the singer sought hospital care soon after leaving the stage.

Hours earlier, the "American Idol" judge had performed at The Muny, where concertgoers praised a show that gave little indication of what would follow.

TMZ reported that Richie checked himself into a St. Louis hospital after the concert to undergo tests and was admitted to intensive care. Sources with direct knowledge said doctors were looking into possible slight dehydration.

There was, however, reportedly a sign near the end of the show that he was struggling. Witnesses said Richie asked his team to bring him a chair during his final song, "All Night Long," so he could sit while continuing to perform.
