Inside Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick’s Homes: Their Los Angeles and New York Residences and the Connecticut Farm That Started as ‘A Rundown Little Farmhouse’ – Photos & Details
11 minutes read
For decades, the couple has balanced fame with a surprisingly hands-on approach to home life — from choosing their own interiors to growing food, caring for animals, and turning ordinary rooms into the backdrop for some of their most personal moments. But the story behind those spaces is just as revealing as the photos themselves.
Kevin Bacon once imagined disappearing into the country with a dog and needing almost nothing else. The property he chose became something much bigger — and eventually sparked the biggest fight of his marriage before another home changed everything.

Over the years, Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have created lives in three very different settings: a sprawling Connecticut farm filled with animals, a striking Los Angeles retreat, and a warm New York apartment that Sedgwick had to fight for.

And while their homes could hardly look more different, the story behind them reveals how the couple’s idea of "home" has changed alongside their marriage and family.

It All Started with Kevin Bacon’s Dream of Becoming a ‘Solitary Man’

Long before the farm became the backdrop for viral videos featuring goats, pigs, and impromptu musical performances, Bacon had something much quieter in mind. In April 2025, he told Esquire that he bought the Connecticut farm in 1983, before the fame that followed "Footloose." His plan was strikingly simple: "A rundown little farmhouse with a tiny little wood stove. That’s where it started."

Bacon said he had never been to Connecticut before and had never bought a house, but he headed there anyway after ending the relationship he was in at the time. The actor described the fantasy as becoming a kind of "Solitary Man with Dog in a Cold Winter."

"It was a very romantic, very Robert Frost notion," he said. "Big wool jacket and long walks. Dead of winter, chopping wood all day long. And really, that’s how I was living except for when I would go off and work."

Decades later, the little farmhouse has become the center of a much richer rural life.

Then Kyra Sedgwick Entered the Picture

The solitary phase did not last. During an April 2025 appearance on Mythical Kitchen, Bacon explained that the farm dream came after the intensity surrounding his sudden fame and while another relationship was ending. "I just thought to myself, I’ll just be a guy with a dog and live alone. I don’t need anything. I don’t need anybody," he recalled.

Although Bacon grew up as a city kid, he said he had developed a love of horses and a fantasy of being on horseback with a kind of cowboy mentality. "If I’d really had taken the story all the way, I would have been in Wyoming," he joked. "But instead I was in Northwestern, Connecticut."

"My mother had a horse when she was a child, and she would talk about it, so I think that ingrained itself in me. That and being a New Yorker, because she was a New Yorker," he added, speaking to Esquire.

Then Sedgwick became part of that life. "My wife folded into that, and we lived in this little place, and I chopped the wood," Bacon shared.

The Animals Became Stars in Their Own Right
Bacon's attachment to the animals became strong enough to influence what he eats. He later explained that having pigs and goats made those animals difficult for him to think of as food. | Source: Instagram/kyrasedgwickofficial
By 2023, the farm was home to four goats, two pigs, three alpacas and three miniature horses, according to a People cover story. Sedgwick said she and Bacon never expected videos involving the animals to become as popular as they did.

"People were like, ‘We love you singing with the goats.’ Kevin and I are like, ‘Great, have you seen our movies or TV shows?’" she joked. "But it makes people happy."

The Farm Even Changed What Kevin Bacon Eats

The animals did more than become internet favorites. In a November 2023 interview with People, Bacon revealed that he had stopped eating goat and pig. "I no longer eat goat and I no longer eat pig, because I have goats and I have pigs," he said. His wife apparently spotted the potential problem immediately.

Cooking remains important to Bacon, who has said he generally prefers making food himself to constantly relying on restaurants or takeout. His interest in food now extends naturally to what he and Sedgwick can grow on the farm. | Source: Instagram/kyrasedgwick and kevinbacon

Bacon said the connection goes beyond sentimentality. "I love animals, they are a joy to be around, and they’re very, very calming for me," he explained.

Fresh Food Is Another Part of Farm Life
Bacon has joked that he and Sedgwick approach kitchen cleanup very differently. He said he cleans while cooking — and even cleans as she cooks. | Source: Instagram/kyrasedgwickofficial
The property also gives Bacon and Sedgwick access to a garden. "We also really love to go into the garden and get fresh herbs or tomatoes or basil or peppers or zucchini," Bacon told People. For the actor, taking food directly from the garden carries a larger meaning:

"Taking something hot off the vine that feels warm and smells like it’s been created by all these natural forces of the sun and air and water and earth and dirt, and then putting it back into your body to sustain yourself…it’s a great lesson in terms of just how important it is to do our best to try to protect this boat that we’re all riding in."

Home Life at the Farm Isn’t All Work

The couple’s social-media posts have also revealed some of the more playful moments that happen away from the fields. There are spontaneous dances, performances, quiet time with pets, and plenty of evidence that the farmhouse itself is a comfortable backdrop rather than a showpiece kept untouched.

There Was Another Side to the Property
The couple’s posts also offer glimpses of the farm beyond the barns and livestock. In one, Sedgwick sits outside among striking red Adirondack chairs. In another, the pair ride through a lush wooded trail — a reminder of the horseback life Bacon had imagined decades earlier.
A 2024 Farm Tour Interview Showed Just How Much the Property Had Grown
When Bacon took "Today" around the farm and spoke about the couple’s life there in March 2024, viewers got a wider look at the property. The tour showed fenced paddocks, barns, animal enclosures, and the open landscape surrounding the home.
But Country Life Eventually Became Too Isolating for Sedgwick
For all its charm, the Connecticut dream came with a problem. Bacon said Sedgwick initially "folded into" his rural lifestyle, and the family lived in Connecticut while raising their children, Sosie and Travis. But by the time their son was around six, Sedgwick had reached her limit. "Kyra went, ‘Guess what? I’m done,’" Bacon told Esquire. He described the situation as "reverse Green Acres."
She missed New York. "I want to go have lunch with my friends. I want to be able to go to Bergdorf’s," he recalled her saying, before quickly adding, "I’m making her sound very shallow, but she’s not that way at all. Really, she just felt very isolated." The disagreement became enormous. Bacon has called it the biggest fight of their lives.
The New York Apartment She Wanted Changed Everything
During his Mythical Kitchen interview, Bacon remembered Sedgwick making the case very clearly. "She said we need to buy an apartment in New York where all of us can live," he recalled. Bacon panicked about the money. "How, how, how, how are we going to afford to do that?" he remembered thinking.
But they found a way, and according to Bacon, Sedgwick turned out to be right. "It was the greatest thing we ever did," he said. "Raising kids in Manhattan was the best idea." He made the same point to Esquire, calling the move "the best thing for our children," "the best thing for our marriage," and even the right choice from a real-estate standpoint.
New York Had Been Part of Bacon’s Story Long Before Their Marriage
Bacon’s relationship with the city stretches back to 1976. During a 2023 appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” he recalled initially sleeping on his sister’s couch for roughly four months while trying to get established. His budget for an apartment was just $150 a month.
After answering an advertisement aimed at artists, actors, and musicians, he discovered that the available two-room apartment cost $325. He couldn’t afford it alone. Then the person running the rental office simply pointed to another man sitting there and asked, "What about this guy?"
Bacon said he looked over; the stranger asked if he wanted to live together, and the two became roommates — for four years. The roommate was a classical pianist who worked nights at the Copacabana. Years later, Bacon’s New York story looked very different.
Inside Their Warm, Renovated New York Home
The couple’s Manhattan apartment is in a prewar building, but Sedgwick said they changed its original layout. "It’s a prewar building, but we renovated to knock down walls and open up the living space," she said in a 2018 Wall Street Journal interview. "Our apartment is a warm, welcoming space."
More recent glimpses rounded out that picture. Architectural Digest noted that a 2024 Instagram post revealed a kitchen with a colorful tiled backsplash, terra-cotta flooring and white cabinetry.
Another image showed the open layout, parquet floors, white walls and ceilings accented with light wood beams.
Then Came a Very Different Kind of Home in Los Angeles
For someone who once built his identity around being a New Yorker, Bacon’s eventual embrace of Los Angeles came as something of a surprise — even to him. In a 2014 interview with the Standard, he admitted that he had spent years thinking of himself as a New Yorker who hated L.A. "But I’ve had a strange conversion," he said.
The couple had purchased a home there, and Bacon admitted: "And now I really like it." Their children were increasingly connected to Los Angeles, too. By the time of Bacon’s 2025 Esquire profile, both Travis and Sosie were living there.
The couple quietly closed on their Los Angeles property in the final week of 2011, according to Trulia. They reportedly paid $2.5 million for the two-bedroom, three-bathroom house in Los Feliz. At approximately 2,760 square feet, the architecturally inspired home offered a dramatic contrast to the Connecticut farm. And the photos make that contrast especially clear.
Inside, Wood, Steel and Huge Windows Take Over
According to Trulia, the house features a chef’s kitchen, soaring ceilings, and sun-filled living areas. The primary suite includes separate closets and bathrooms, while the lower level offers a guest suite and a separate office or gym. Outside, there is a pool and spa with fountains. A Realtor.com video gave an even clearer look at the property.
Their Own Photos Reveal a More Personal Side of the L.A. House
Listing photos show the architecture, but the couple’s own images make the residence feel considerably more personal.
Three Homes, Three Very Different Chapters
Taken together, Bacon and Sedgwick’s homes tell a surprisingly neat story. The Connecticut farm began as one man’s attempt to disappear into a "rundown little farmhouse" after a turbulent period in his life. It became a family home, an animal
