Kaia Gerber Wears a Vintage-Inspired Black Dress to the US Open Blue Carpet Alongside Richard Gere’s Son Homer — Photos

The young co-stars arrived looking effortlessly matched for one of New York’s biggest sporting nights, but a closer look at their outfits left viewers fixated on details that sparked some brutally candid comparisons.
Kaia Gerber, 24, and Homer Gere, 26, walked the US Open Blue Carpet in New York City on August 25, 2026, before an exhibition honoring tennis icon Roger Federer.

Their polished appearance together was already enough to attract attention, but once the photographs spread, Homer found himself at the center of comments about everything from his famous father to one styling choice people simply could not leave alone.
As it oftens happens with the next generation Hollywood, netizens immediately began discussing resemblance and some came to some serious conclusions about Homer Gere.

Kaia and Homer Turned a Tennis Night Into a Fashion Moment
Kaia knows how to make something deceptively simple look far more interesting than it first appears, and her US Open outfit was a perfect example.

She arrived in a body-skimming black dress with a plunging V-neckline and low scoop back, creating a sleek silhouette that looked made for an elegant evening rather than an athletic event.
There was, however, a clever reason the design suited a tennis celebration. According to W Magazine, the dress was Yana Matkivski’s Donna design, which takes inspiration from old-school bathing suits.

Instead of simply mimicking vintage swimwear visually, the designer worked those ideas into the dress’s construction. The dense viscose ponte-knit piece contains a bodysuit beneath its fitted pencil skirt, along with an internal liner designed to shape the body while allowing enough stretch to move comfortably.
In other words, Kaia managed to show up in an evening dress that quietly borrowed from sportswear without looking remotely like she had dressed for a workout. She leaned firmly into glamour with the rest of the outfit.

Oversized Side Eye sunglasses covered much of her face, while Paris Texas Lidia mules kept the look sleek from head to toe. She also wore a gold Panthère de Cartier watch and carried a tiger-print Fendi baguette, giving the otherwise dark ensemble a little flash of pattern.
Kaia Gerber attended the US Open Tennis Championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on August 25, 2026, in New York City.

Kaia Gerber turned heads in a classic black dress that made her look just like her mother.
Standing beside her was Homer, who kept things considerably more relaxed. He wore a black blazer over a collared shirt that was left open at the neckline, pairing the pieces with jeans.

Side by side, the actors looked almost suspiciously coordinated. That visual harmony was particularly fitting because the two have spent much of the summer appearing together while promoting FX’s "The Shards."
And many now think he looks even better than his father.

A TikTok video from their US Open arrival described the outing as a fun New York City crossover, noting that Kaia and Homer had also been photographed together for Vogue that day.
But the fashion was only part of what made seeing these two together so fascinating. Their family history could have made their first meeting spectacularly awkward. Instead, they insist it was anything but.

Their Parents Shared a Hollywood History Before They Ever Met
Kaia is the daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, while Homer is Richard Gere’s son with his second wife, Carey Lowell. Long before Kaia and Homer became scene partners, Cindy and Richard were one of Hollywood’s most recognizable couples.

Cindy and Richard were married from 1991 until 1995. That meant their children entered the same acting project decades later with an unusually personal connection already sitting in the background.
Richard Gere and Carey Lowell walked the red carpet during the Closing Ceremony of the 6th International Rome Film Festival on November 4, 2011, in Rome, Italy.

There was just one catch. Kaia and Homer had never met. Homer explained the unlikely situation during an E! News interview at the New York City premiere of "The Shards" on July 27, 2026.
"We hadn’t met before shooting," he said. "Two weeks before, we met at a bar with all the other cast and we became friends. It’s funny."

There was apparently no strange conversation about their parents’ romantic past or uncomfortable attempt to make sense of the connection. For Homer, their relationship quickly became something much more ordinary.
"From the inside, it’s really normal," he continued. "We just became friends as coworkers before we started working and she’s become a really close friend. It’s been lovely working with her."

Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber had never met before working on "The Shards," first crossing paths at a local bar.

Kaia sounded equally delighted with her new friend and scene partner.
"It was so lovely to work with him," she said. "He’s so wonderful. He’s so funny. He makes me laugh so hard and he’s the greatest scene partner ever. And really, it’s such a supportive environment and we’ve gotten so close over this process."

Those comments make their relaxed body language at the US Open rather easy to understand. They had already become genuine friends.

And that friendship proved particularly valuable once cameras started rolling on a project that could get considerably darker than their cheerful red-carpet appearances suggested.

Their Friendship Helped With the Darker Side of "The Shards"
"The Shards" places Kaia and Homer inside a much more unsettling world than the one surrounding the US Open. The FX drama is based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel and comes from executive producer Ryan Murphy.

According to Disney, the series is set in 1980s Los Angeles and follows a privileged group of high school seniors at an elite prep school. Their glossy teenage lives become tangled in questions of identity, jealousy, and obsession while something much more frightening grows around them.
Igby Rigney plays Bret, an observant aspiring writer whose sense of reality begins deteriorating following the arrival of a mysterious student named Robert Mallory, played by Homer.

His character transfers to the school just before senior year, at the same time that fear is spreading over a serial killer known as The Trawler, who is targeting teenagers in Los Angeles.
Kaia plays Susan Reynolds, part of Bret’s wealthy and deeply intertwined social group. Hayes Warner portrays Debbie Schaffer, while Graham Campbell plays Thom Wright. Wes Bentley, Evan Rachel Wood and Jordan Roth are among the actors portraying the adults whose lives intersect with the teenagers.

For the cast, working through such intense material became considerably easier because the friendships behind the scenes were genuine. Homer told People that their bond kept the mood from becoming unbearably heavy.
"I think the fact that we’re actually close friends kept it inherently light," he said. "We had constant sounding boards for each other. So I don’t think there was a day on set that there wasn’t real laughter and fun."

That may have made navigating a demanding production easier, but Homer also had one particularly experienced person waiting on the other end of the phone whenever he needed guidance.
Homer Still Calls Richard Gere From the Set

Being Richard’s son certainly comes with access to one of the more useful Hollywood phone contacts imaginable. Homer said his father remains a regular source of advice while he is working.
The conversations, however, are not simply acting lessons from a veteran movie star to his son. Richard has apparently focused more on helping Homer understand the realities of maintaining a career and behaving professionally on set.

"I call him almost every day when I’m on set," Homer said. "He’s really the most invaluable resource in terms of making this all work for me, so it’s really special to have him in my corner."

That affectionate description made the reaction to Homer’s latest photographs especially amusing. Because once people saw him walking beside Kaia at the US Open, some immediately started studying his face for traces of Richard. They had opinions. Very definite opinions.

Viewers Had Blunt Thoughts About Homer’s Famous Resemblance
Some people apparently expected one glance at Homer to immediately scream Richard. They did not get what they were expecting. On TikTok, one commenter declared, "He looks nothing like his dad 💯 💯 💯."

Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber looked like they were having fun while seen at the US Open on August 25, 2026, in New York City.
Another was equally certain, writing, "he doesn’t look anything like Richard Gere [sic]." Yet the family resemblance soon had competition from another subject. People began looking farther down Homer’s outfit, and his trousers became an entire conversation of their own.

One commenter wrote, "His pants are too short." Another demanded, "Why are the guys wearing cropped pants????" A third person had virtually the same concern: "Why are his jeans so short?"
Netizens were split over Homer Gere’s appearance, with some claiming he strongly resembles Richard Gere while others disagreed. In this photo, he arrived at the US Open on August 25, 2026, in New York City.

It is hard to imagine Homer expected the hem of his trousers to become one of the evening’s talking points, especially while standing beside Kaia in a meticulously designed dress.
Still, social media rarely leaves a styling decision unexamined. And once the comparisons to his parents moved to Facebook, another commenter had a full theory about exactly where Homer’s looks came from:

"Shes mama’s twin but he must’ve got his moms looks cause the only thing similar to his father is the hair [sic]."
Many fans discussed how much Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber resembled their famous parents during their appearance at the US Open.
Not everybody was interested in deciding which parent he resembled more. One admirer skipped straight past the genealogy lesson. "He is hotter than his dad..Whew!!!" the commenter wrote. That may not have been the father-son comparison Richard expected, but it was certainly enthusiastic.
Kaia may have delivered the polished fashion moment, but Homer Gere clearly gave viewers just as much to discuss. Together, the friends turned a night at the US Open into a memorable outing that had people studying both sides of the carpet photos.
