Lionel Richie's Saturday night concert in St. Louis took an unexpected turn when the singer sought hospital care soon after leaving the stage.
Hours earlier, the "American Idol" judge had performed at The Muny, where concertgoers praised a show that gave little indication of what would follow.

Richie performed at the Forest Park venue on August 29, 2026, delivering songs from his five-decade career. His set included music from his years with the Commodores and hits from his solo career.
Concertgoers Praised Richie's Command of the Stage

On Facebook, people who attended the concert described an energetic and entertaining performance. One netizen said, "Such a good show! He was funny too! Love knowing all the songs and they all were great!"
Another user shared, "It was a fantastic show! He still sounds and looks great and he was charming and personable! And then to see him at The Muny was perfect!"

A commenter wrote, "He was amazing, funny, commanded the stage." Someone else remarked, "You did again, thank you."
The Photos Captured Richie Hours Before His Hospitalization

The concert photos show Richie commanding the large stage. In one image, he smiles broadly while holding a microphone and wearing a bright yellow jacket. Another captures him with his arms extended as fiery visuals fill the stage behind him.
Other photos show Richie at the piano before a packed audience and performing alongside members of his band. Together, the images document his appearance shortly before he sought hospital care.

TMZ reported that Richie checked himself into a St. Louis hospital after the concert to undergo tests and was admitted to intensive care. Sources with direct knowledge said doctors were looking into possible slight dehydration.
There was, however, reportedly a sign near the end of the show that he was struggling. Witnesses said Richie asked his team to bring him a chair during his final song, "All Night Long," so he could sit while continuing to perform.

Hospital News Put the Concert Reactions in a New Light
On another Facebook discussion, people responding to The Muny's post praised Richie's performance while expressing concern about what happened afterward.

One commenter wrote, "It was a great show! But sorry to hear he was hospitalized afterwards. Prayers for Lionel!" Another user said, "He still has his voice and put on a great show!"
Someone else remarked, "He put on a tremendous show, we were so impressed he had everyone up and dancin [sic]!"

According to TMZ's sources, Richie was being cautious as doctors ran tests, and he was reportedly hoping to be discharged Tuesday.
